Message The new definition of hell = post processing 100+ by hand photos when Photoshop wants to crash on the automated jobs. Even so, don't feel sorry for me because simply seeing the pics reminds me of how great a weekend it was. Pics will be posted shortly in sub-threads to this so kill some time by reading.

For those that don't know about the JGTC it stands for "Japan Grand Touring Car Championship". There are two classes the GT500 (500bhp) and GT300 (300bhp). The GT300 tends to be more accessible to private companies than the semi-exclusive GT500 class. The one thing that sets the JGTC apart from other forms of racing is that it focuses more on the efforts of the entire team rather than the car. For example, the car that wins a particular race will then have a weight "penalty" added to the car for the next race. What this does is make for a much more exciting race in that some end up with less than a second separating the top 10 qualifiers for pole position and the entire race has more side-by-side action than most other forms of racing. It's quite fun to watch as a result.

Anyway, this is the first time ever this event has been held in the United States. It used to be a Japan exclusive event until 2002 when it branched out to Malaysia. Now we happen to be included in the schedule and I can't tell you how great things went. In fact, I'm in shock at how well us crazy Americans behaved. Everything was total access from the pits to the paddocks. Tools and parts were all over the place begging to be stolen, kicked or broken and I didn't see a single incident. No stupid people doing burnouts in the parking lot, no fights, nothing. There were a few small hiccups with organization but given the amount of events involved, they handled it great. On top of the main JGTC races (Qual/All-Star 200/All-Star Sprint) there was also a D1 Drift Event, drift ride-alongs, go-kart track, autoX, manufacturer test drive section, car show, car club parade lap, Winston Cup-esque car ride-alongs and a few other things I can't remember.

Mainly I stuck with the JGTC and Drift events because we had VIP seats and I didn't want to miss anything but you'll see in the next few posts that we ran into tons of models and race queens (you're welcome Halo). So what am I waiting for? It's 11:55pm so I got this thing started as promised..."tonight" =)

PS: Sorry East coasters.
